COVID Emergency Rental Assistance in Detroit

The Biden administration has extended a federal ban on evictions for renters who have fallen behind on payments during the pandemic.

The moratorium, which was scheduled to end on March 31, now runs until the end of June. The protection was put in place last year to keep families from losing their homes and potentially spreading the coronavirus by moving into crowded shelters or the homes of relatives and friends.

Meanwhile, here in Michigan, financial support is now available through the COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) program.

Stephen Henderson spoke with the heads of two Detroit nonprofits implementing the program: Ted Philips of United Community Housing Coalition and Tasha Gray from the Homeless Action Network of Detroit.
