American Black Journal – COVID’s Impact on Ministers and Congregations

As faith leaders, ministers are called upon to comfort their parishioners in times of sorrow and need, nut what happens when the grief touches them personally?

Host Stephen Henderson continues American Black Journal’s yearlong series on The Black Church in Detroit with a look at the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on ministers and their congregations. In a special report, Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harris, President of the Ecumenical Theological Seminary, and his daughter Rev. Kenita Harris, Minister of Social Engagement at Detroit Bible Tabernacle, talk about their personal experience with loss during the COVID pandemic.

Plus, Stephen talks with two Detroit-area pastors featured in a State of Michigan television and radio campaign focusing on the lonely goodbyes that have resulted from the coronavirus and the importance of getting vaccinated. Rev. Charles Williams II of Historic King Solomon Baptist Church and Rev. Dr. John Duckworth from Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church address the ongoing vaccine hesitancy in the African American community and talk about the impact of COVID-19 on their congregations.
