Fixing In-home Healthcare

The state of Michigan needs tens of thousands more home health aids right now to care for seniors seeking to remain at home in their final years. In the next few years, experts say, the shortage of those workers are predicted to swell to massive proportions.

One Detroit’s Senior Producer Bill Kubota spoke to Ted Roelofs of Bridge Michigan and Sarah Rahal of The Detroit News about their recent stories on this caregiving crisis and efforts to recruit and retain these essential workers.

Their reports are part of a series on issues related to caregiving supported by the New York & Michigan Solutions Journalism Collaborative, which includes Detroit PBS’s One Detroit.
