One Detroit – Insurrection / Vaccine Hesitation / The Black Church in Detroit / Motor Bell

Aug 13, 2020

  • Insurrection and Aftermath Former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment is underway in the wake of the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. One Detroit’s Will Glover talks to experts in social media research, right wing extremist groups, and a former senior national security director to get a better understanding of what was on the minds of insurrectionists as they laid siege to the Capitol.
  • The COVID Vaccine: Vaccine Hesitation and the Trust Gap “People just have more questions than they do answers. And now we have a new problem, which is a lot of those people who are ‘No’ or ‘No, for now’ have become a yes. And we have a waitlist in Genesee County of over 30,000 people and the list grows by about 2,000 people a day.” Christy talks with Dr. Debra Furr-Holden, an epidemiologist at MSU’s Division of Public Health and director of Flint Health Equity Solutions, about vaccine distribution and helping local groups get their questions answered when it comes to COVID vaccine safety.
  • American Black Journal: The Role of Activism in the Black Church This month, American Black Journal is kicking off a year-long initiative highlighting the historic importance and continuing influence of Black churches in Detroit. One Detroit has a preview of Stephen Henderson’s conversation with Pastor Barry Randolph of Church of the Messiah, Rev. Dr. Constance Simon of Fellowship Chapel and Reverend Charles Williams II of Historic King Solomon Church.
  • Motor Bella & the Future of the Auto Show News that the North American International Auto Show is on hold again this year is causing speculation that we’ll never see a big auto show here again. Not so fast says NAIAS Chairman Doug North. He talks with Nolan Finley about their new event in Pontiac called Motor Bella next fall.
  • Remembering Detroit Legends Mary Wilson & Charles McGee Detroit recently lost two iconic artists—Mary Wilson of The Supremes and Charles McGee. Wilson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, was an author, and fiercely loved Detroit. Charles McGee’s artwork can be seen all around the city. Wilson appeared on Detroit Black Journal in 1986, and McGee talked about his work in his own words in a Detroit Performs segment from 2017, where he talked about the unveiling of his mural titled “Unity.”
