One Detroit – Headlines / Hydroponics / Census 2020

Aug 13, 2020

 Tonight on One Detroit:

HEADLINES: Christy, Nolan and Stephen talk about some of the week’s biggest headlines, including the Detroit Police Department’s handling of a disruption by a neo-Nazi group during the Motor City Pride LGBTQ weekend celebration. The team also discusses the controversy over the possible closing of Benton Harbor’s only high school, which would send 700 students to neighboring districts.

HYDROPONICS: A One Detroit report on PlanTed, a hydroponics business on the city’s east side that’s growing plants indoors with LED lighting. It’s a growing form of farming and their products are ending up in local restaurants and at Eastern Market.

CENSUS 2020: Local businesses and organizations are coming together to make sure everyone gets counted in Census 2020. In this interview from the Mackinac Policy Conference, Christy talks with representatives from three local groups that are working to merge resources and efforts: Donna Murray-Brown, CEO of the Michigan Nonprofit Association; Hassan Jaber, executive director of ACCESS; and Nancy Moody, VP of Public Affairs at DTE Energy.
