• Rev. Wendell Anthony on protests and Detroit’s big corporations taking a stance against racism: Stephen Henderson talks with Detroit NAACP President, Rev. Wendell Anthony, about why these protests and marches are different from the ones we’ve seen before, the importance of white Americans hearing from white America, and significance of 9 of the top business leaders in MI taking a public stance to address racism.
• A.C.T – Acknowledge, Confront, and Talk: As we have all watched in the past week, the horror of George Floyd’s death, the call to end police brutality, crowds demonstrating in across the state, many have joined friends in the black community in support. Sometimes, it’s hard to know the right thing to say – or the best way to lend support. One Detroit’s Will Glover talks with Charity Dean, Director of Civil Rights, Inclusion, and Opportunity for the City of Detroit about where people can start.
• Making Real Change: Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist talks with Christy McDonald about what true policy changes can be made to combat systemic racism and the work of the state’s Coronavirus Task Force on Racial Disparities going forward.
• The Future of Dining Out: The stay-at-home order has ended. Starting June 8^th, restaurants and bars will be allowed to open at 50% capacity. Detroit Free Press restaurant critic, Mark Kurlyandchik, talks with Christy McDonald about what our dining experience could look like.
• Macomb County Prepares to Reopen Small Businesses: Nolan Finley talks with Macomb County Executive, Mark Hackel, about the questions he’s heard from small businesses owners about the timeline and process for reopening. Some have said it’s not been happening fast enough.
• Seven Last Words of the Unarmed: We close tonight’s show with an excerpt from an original choral work composed by Joel Thompson, performed by the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club—directed by Dr. Eugene Rogers in 2015. Each section of the piece focuses on the last words of men who’ve been killed by police or other authority figures.
