Amazon and ALJ give Rivian a boost

Aug 13, 2020

Crain’s Detroit recently reported that Amazon is planning to invest $700 million in Plymouth Township based Rivian, maker of electric pick-up trucks and sports utility vehicles. Earlier last week, Reuters reported that GM was also interested in becoming a stakeholder .

Detroit PBS One Detroit and Daily Detroit’s Sven Gustafson took a look at some of Rivian’s pre-production models last month.

The company has been working on concepts for ten years and made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show late last year.
Rivian CEO R.J. Scaringe told Gustafson, “We wanted to make sure we weren’t just showing an idea or a sketch or a rendering, we were showing a proper vehicle fully engineered and had all the pieces together to deliver that.”
