From One Detroit, in the Islandview neighborhood of Detroit, several people talked to us about the concept of “neighboring” and how connecting with the people they live around makes them feel safer and makes them feel more invested in what is happening on their street and where they live. Christy McDonald reports.

In partnership with CDAD (Community Development Advocates of Detroit), and thanks to the Detroit Journalism Engagement Fund, One Detroit has been meeting with stakeholders in the Islandview and other neighborhoods to find out what kind of storytelling is important to them. New stories from neighborhoods including Islandview will be surfacing on future MiWeek episodes, the One Detroit website, and the new One Detroit series, coming September 2018.
