Looking for some summer fun in Detroit? From the Uncle Sam Jam to the Oakland County Fair and the Detroit Kite Festival at Belle Isle, metro Detroit has a lot to offer! One Detroit contributors Dave Wagner and Peter Whorf of 90.9 WRCJ shares what you can do around the Detroit area during the July 7 weekend and into next week on “One Detroit Weekend.” 

List of upcoming events: 

• Cap off your Fourth of July weekend with the Uncle Sam Jam in Woodhaven July 6-9. The three-day festival will include live music each night plus fireworks on Friday, July 7.  
• Head to Gordon Park where you can participate in a yoga class at 5 p.m. followed by an art and meditation session and a Detroit Opera performance at 7 p.m. Massages will also be offered all throughout the evening.   
• Take in some jazz music at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge with the Ralphe Armstrong trio from 8-11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night. 
• Explore a time when the game of baseball was different by playing an original base ball game at the Henry Ford Museum. Games run on most weekends through Sept. 4.  
• One of the nation’s oldest fairs, the Oakland County Fair, returns to Davisburg July 7 through July 15. People can check out the big rock carnival, k-9s in flight, and there’s various competitions for kids and their pets. 
• Oakland, CA-based hip hop collective Souls of Mischief takes the stage for their “93 ‘Til Infinity” 30th tour starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 8 at the Blind Pig. 
• Detroit-based rock band Rare Earth performs with Doop and The Inside Outlaws starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 8 at the Majestic Theatre. 
• Join the Detroit Kite Festival July 9 at Belle Isle Cricket Field. The festival uplifts kite flying and creation as a platform for radical inclusion, communal play, shared healing, and the celebration of culture and history.
