One Detroit Weekend: May 31, 2024

The season of summer festivals and markets in and around Detroit is starting up this week with the Palmer Park Art Fair and the Greenmead Summer Flea Market. You can also commemorate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month or head to the Detroit Grand Prix.

Plus, participate in Paint Out at the Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, see recent works from regional fiber artists at the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Stamelos Gallery Center and more. Contributor Cecelia Sharpe of 90.9 WRCJ shares other events to check out this weekend on “One Detroit Weekend.”

Upcoming Events: 

  • AsianFest Michigan comes to Twelve Mile Crossing at Fountain Walk in Novi through June 2, featuring music, eating contests, a volleyball tournament, Muay Thai and more.   
  • The Palmer Park Art Fair returns to Detroit’s Palmer Park June 1-2. The art fair will include 100 artists and vendors, music, food and drinks and more.  
  • The Detroit Grand Prix returns to the streets of downtown Detroit May 31 – June 2. The race will take place along Jefferson Avenue and streets bordering the Detroit Riverfront.  
  • The Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit hosts its Youth Ensemble auditions June 4 and 6. Auditions are open to students in grades 8-12. 
  • Fourteen East Gallery in Detroit hosts “Adornments: Textiles Arts for the Home,” an exhibit of expressive fiber textiles, through June 30.  
  • The University of Michigan-Dearborn Stamelos Gallery Center presents the exhibit “Piece by Piece: Recent Work from Regional Fiber Artists” through August 18. 
  • The Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores hosts its annual Paint Out on June 1, an all-skill levels event that invites people to capture the beauty of “en plein air.” 
  • The city of Livonia hosts the Greenmead Summer Flea Market on June 2 at Greenmead Historical Park in Livonia. Proceeds from the market will benefit Greenmead.
