Northwest Detroit Development Named After Artist Tylonn Sawyer 

A new mixed-use development project coming to Northwest Detroit will be named in honor of a local artist some Detroiters might know. The project will be named Sawyer Art Apartments in honor of Detroit contemporary artist Tylonn Sawyer, who plans to provide interior and exterior artwork for the new building. In light of this news, One Detroit’s Will glover sat down with Tylonn to discuss the development’s name, how digital media may help or hurt Black artists, and what it’s like to address racism in America through a Black artist’s eyes.

Silverpoint Artist Mario Moore Discusses New Gallery Exhibit 

The One Detroit Arts & Culture team caught up with silverpoint artist and muralist Mario Moore at the David Klein Gallery to explore the meaning behind his latest exhibition, which asks the question, is it ever possible for black men to truly rest?

Michigan Photography Book Shows State’s Natural, Manmade Beauty 

Ah, pure Michigan. Filled with its rich fall colors, gorgeous dunes and fresh water lakes, and intriguing architecture, Michigan is home to some of the best natural and manmade beauties in the nation. Glenn Stevens knows all about the beautiful landscapes that stretch from the top of the mitten down, so much that he created and published a photography book filled with his photos from across the state. One Detroit’s Christy McDonald chats with Glenn about his new book and the even deeper meaning behind him creating it.
